Everyone has a moment in their life when they realise what it is they want to be. I was fortunate that my epiphany happened at an early age. The internet was booming and I was still at school. The year: 1998. I wanted to be a rock star. Failing that? A web designer. I played the guitar a lot and I was pretty good, but not good enough. Fortunately, I didn’t spend all my time picking strings – I also figured out how computers work, and started making websites.
I’ve been playing guitar and building websites for over 10 years each now and I still love doing both. I couldn’t tell you which I enjoy more: blasting out an improvised guitar solo live on stage or finally getting that tricky bit of experimental code I’ve been working on functioning properly in every web browser under the sun. I couldn’t choose between them.
Today I’m lucky enough to be working as a web designer full time. I’ve freelanced and been on staff for multi-national corporations. I know which one of those I like more. Freelancing allows me freedom that other jobs don’t and lets me focus on doing work that I’m really passionate about. That, to me, is worth everything.
I love what I do and I hope to keep doing it for a long time. The web industry is an exciting, fast moving one and I wouldn’t want to do anything else.
I’ve you’d like to get in touch and have me bring my enthusiasm to your project just drop me a note with your details and we can talk about what you need – no strings attached.
Until then, hasta luego.
